It's May, so it's almost time for Mother's Day 2023! Although Mother's Day isn't a federal holiday, it is a day to show appreciation for the mothers and caregivers in our lives. The day has a long history in the United States - it was started by Anna Marie Jarvis in 1908. Now, we celebrate it with gifts, cards, flowers, events, brunches, and more!

Mother's Day Dinner at The Horse Shoe Farm

Join The Horse Shoe Farm for an evening celebrating the mothers in our lives at The Silo Cookhouse. The event begins at 6 p.m. with h’ors d’oeuvres, followed by a family-style meal at 6:30 p.m.

Mother's Day Market at Historic Johnson Farm

The third annual Mother's Day Market will be held on Saturday, May 13, from 10 am to 4 pm. Over 20 local artisans will sell their products, including jewelry, clothes, and home goods. Also, check out the farm's gardens and purchase plants. Guests should park in the Rugby Middle School athletic field across the street from the farm. There will be hot dogs, chips, and drinks available for purchase.

Steel Magnolias at Flat Rock Playhouse

Steel Magnolias, which Robert Harling wrote in just ten days, is about the relationships of a tight-knit group of southern women in Louisiana. They gather at Truvy’s beauty salon to celebrate their milestones. The play is full of funny banter and acerbic dialogue, and it deepens when the sassy, diabetic Shelby disagrees with her doctor's advice and risks becoming pregnant. Steel Magnolias represents love, resilience, and sisterhood, and it's great to enjoy with the women you love and appreciate!

Mother's Day Brunch at Kanuga

Go to Kanuga for a delicious Mother's Day brunch! Their 21 miles of hiking trails will be open for guests, and the waterfront will be available for swimming and boating! Make your reservations to enjoy herb-crusted prime rib, salmon with lemon dill aioli, roasted Brussels sprouts with balsamic vinaigrette, charcuterie, a salad bar, and more, topped off with blueberry crepes and chocolate chip cheesecake. Mimosas and Bloody Marys will also be available at an additional cost. Reservations are required.

Wild Child, Wild Women Yoga Circle 

This event is a Yoga Circle & Ceremony for women and girls. It is a space where they can connect, move, and feel nourished. Participants will be moving through various yoga sequences appropriate for all levels. During this time, we’ll be able to connect with our inner confidence and laugh.
